John FINDLEY
Follow this line. William Findley immigrated 1773. His son John led theimmigration with his wife Mary Boyd and infant son, David in 1761. (Itwas their son Hugh who was killed by the Indians along with another son,John, as the family floated down the Ohio River in 1804.) They walked across Pennsylvania eventually settling in WestmorelandCounty, Pa. in 1773. His father William and all of his six brothers areveterans of thr Revolutionary War. This family leaves strong history inthe forming of this country. Their son Abel married Rebecca Courtney,they were the parents of William David father of Nancy Izetta. Abelhelped his parents on their trip down the Ohio, but did not move hisfamily from Pa. until 1808. Abel and Rebecca had 17 children. Their sonmoved to Iowa in 1852.
Abel Findley came to Brownstown, Indiana befoe 1810. He was elected tothe office of Judge of the Probate Court for Jackson County andcommissioned on August 29, 1829. He took his oath of ofiicw on October 1,1829. Abel was among the first settlers in Brownstown along with Jame Mitchelland John McCormick. They settled there before 1825. Land and PropertyDeeds for Jackson County: FHL 1314755 P. 81; 1 Sep 1818. Deed from Abel Finley and Rebecca to Samuel Whedon, 1 Sep 1818, sold landto Samuel Whedon for $250 in the county of Jackson. Other transactionsare in the records for Jackson County. Abel and his wife Rebecca had 17 children. Abel helped his parents movefrom Pennsylvania down the Ohio River but he did not move his familyuntil 1808. They settled in Jackson County, Indiana around 1812.
He married Blocked 1759 at Belfast, County Antrim, Northern Ireland .
