Daniel Hill died at East Hartford, Connecticut, Dec 23, 1782.Administration was granted upon his estate, Jan. 24, 1783. Theproceedings of the Probate Court show that his widow was named Mabel anddisclosee the names of Levi, Nathan, Reuben, John, Joshua, and Moses ashis sons and Sarah of his daughters. The administrators were his sonLevi and Thomas Risley, both of Glastonbury, and the appraisers wereSilas Hills and Henry Treat.
The probate records were interesting. One is not sure what is happeningwith Mabel. She does show in the 1790 census as do Levi, Nathan, andReuben. Her household does have some minor children but definitely notall of the children. It is hard to explain the situation. Did thebrothers have a falling out?
In any event, something unusual happened. Jesse is conceiveably inNathan's household in the 1790 census. Normally the surviving widowwould have taken responsibility for the minor children with the oldestboy Levi directed to take care of the financial matters. That didn'thappen. There were outside guadians and Nathan acted as a guardian. Theestate must have had considerable assets.
