In 1640, he was surveyor of highways, and for neglecting service wasfined 10s. He was constable of Marshfield in 1647, and was chosen on the committeeMarshfield eight years. It would seem that he was of hasty temper and allowed his anger to express itself in wordsand bring him into trouble, for in 1645 he complained that he could not obtain justice; andthis complaint being untrue he was committed to prison "during the country's pleasure andwas fined xli." 0n acknowledging his offence and sorrow for it he was released and ???fine to stand still one whole year and upon his carryage then to be remitted or else to be en-treated." It was remitted early in 1647.Again in 1646, "for opprobious words against the church of Marshfield saying they wereall lyers &e was ordered by the Court to fynd surities for his good behaviour, which he refusedto doe, was committed to prison where he remained untill the General Court following."
