Notes:
                   Spencer, age 19, enlisted as a private in Captain B. F. Robinson's Company H, Separate Battalion, Missouri Mounted Riflemen, in the Mexican War.  He enlisted for twelve months duration on 23 July 1846 in Polk County, Missouri, and was honorably discharged on 17 September 1847 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  He is on the pension rolls for the Mexican War.
