Gilbert Thomas MARCHANT

                   Gilbert Thomas Marchant was born March 18, 1880, in Peoa, Utah.  Hespent his boyhood and yhouth in that area until 1900 when he came withother members of the family to Cowley WY.  Part of the family had madethe trip a few months earlier.  Gib's wife, Elizabeth Lindsay, was bornin Deweyville UT 22 Sep 1884.  Her mother, Emma Bowden Lindsay, had beenleft a widow with ten children when Elizabeth was only nine years old.
       Gib and Elizabeth were married 2 Jul 1903 by Charles A Welch in thehome of Clarence Fancher in Cowley.  For several years Gib worked withhis father and brothers on various projects near Cowley.  He lovedanimals and the mountains and was an expert hunter and fisherman.  Mostof his free time was spent in the mountains.  The Marchants moved totheir ranch on Dryhead about 1921.  They made friends among the Indianson the Crow Reservation near their ranch.  Their adopted son, Arley,spent the first ten years of his life on the ranch.  One other adoptedchild died in infancy.
       After returning to Cowley, Elizabeth taught Sunday School, Primary,YWMIA, and Religion Class.  When she was 80 years old, she continued as aRelief Society visiting teacher.  After a long illness Gib died in May,1946.
