Received a pension for serving in French and Indian Wars 1754-1760. He served in Col. Speak's Co. and was wounded in a battle which was the Indians near Stanton, VA.Samuel Vance's Will, Surry CO, NC names wife Aley and children: David, Als (Alice), Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Samuel, Sarah ENSLEY, Joseph, James, Hanna LOWRY and John Vance.Sarah was probably married to Abraham Ensley who is on the Samuel Vance/Elizabeth Gilmore Gilford Co, NC marriage bond.Hanna was possibly married to John Lowry who is named in the will as an executor. The will was dated 29 Mar 1789 and proven in Aug 1789.From "Vance and Related Families"--Samuel Vance moved to the Piedmont section of North Carolina in the Belews Creek area, now in Forsyth CO, NC just prior to the Revolution. At the time of his arrival, his land was in Surry County and partially in Guilford Co, later Stokes Co. Mr. Butcher identifies two Rev. War army vouchers as being for this Samuel Vance, for Public Claims. These claims were probably for provisions which he supplied the army as he was too old to have been a soldier. (Rev. War Pens. App., Nat'l Archives microfilm #M804, roll 2441).The grave of Samuel Vance is at the Old Union Church Graveyard, stating date of his death as 26 May 1789. This death date is consistent with the date of his will and the time the will was proved. His age is stated as 63 years, placing his birth about 1726.Dates of births and death of Samuel Vance's children came from "Vance and Related Families."
