                   Served in regiment of infantry team volunteer- enlisted 20 feb 1862, dischared 23 Feb 1865 at Nashville.  Put as Captain. Thomas and Rachel
were never married.Rachel and Shields (two households) were listed next to
each other on the same farm.  They were never married.  Shields was the father of Thomas Shields Tharp, Mary Elizabeth Tharp, and probably William Grant Tharp.
Thomas Shields Tharp lived on this farm and raised 12 children.  His 7th child was born Feb, 28, 1903- Frona Bell Tharp Ashton.  Still living in Dec. 1990 in Virginia.  Remembers her grandfather's name was Sharp, even though her father kept his mother's name: Tharp.
