Mr. DOBSON

                   Was 4th wife of Zachariah Ashton.  She had one son, age 7  (Nelson Lathan) when she married
Zachariah.  He was 10 years old when their daughter, Laura was born.
Eliza came from Pennsylvania with her parents when a young girl and her grandfather settled at Flat Rock, near Pualding, OH.  Her fatherr died and was buried there.  There were four children in her family: David, Lyddia, and Rebecca.
After her father died, she sold her dowry and bought a farm joining the homeplace.  Everything was scarce and highpriced.  She paid $16.00 for a barrel for flour.  Her brothers came home after the war, soon married and began for themselves.  She helped her sons with waht she was able: to hire and clear the farm.  Nelson, the deaf son, was a great worker and tood pried in his farm and horses.  He never married and died in 1916.  She thought as much of her step children as if they had been her own and she as much of her as if she had been their mother.  She always said they were the most agreeable family of children she ever saw.
Nelson had scarlet fever when a child and could not talk, but only by motion.  He was considered always part of the family as a full brother.
