Name: Colver/Culver BIRTH: Edward possibly born at Groton, England. OCCUPATION: Baker & Brewer; Wheelwright Immigration: 1635 to Boston. Sailed on the Abigail, one of the Winthrop ships. One of the original settlers of Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Signed the Dedham Covenant Oct 1636. The Mohican Chief Uncas held Edward Colver in such great esteem that he named his son after Edward's second son, Joshua. Built a water power gristmill at the head of the cove at New London. It was still in daily use in 1897 and perhaps later. He had two gristmills and one sawmill. He was granted land for his service in the Pequot wars. One grant was located near the head of the Mystic River, called "Chepadas" by the Indians, meaning "intersection of trails." The home on this land still stands, and was occupied by Colvers and Lambs for generations.
