Note: When Sarah Catherine "Katie" died of cancer in 1891, her three children by John Herrigle were placed in foster homes. Jessie was raised by a family named Durfee. Frank was raised by a family named Smith, a name he used all his life. Lucille was adopted by the Frank H. Weldon family in 1891 in Pontiac, Illinois. Samuel Leighton, child by Katie's first marriage to Albert Leighton, was adopted by the family of William H. Brace of Pontiac, IL. When Mrs. Brace died, he was kicked out by his stepfather, and lived with several other families before taking off to make his way by himself in the world. He used the adopted name of RALPH DARRINGTON HARRIS throughout his life.
