On the probated records Mae (she didn't go by Mary) Louise Heinz gave as names and ages of legal heirs: Mae Louise Heinz wife age 25 residence- Topaz, MI Floyd Leonard Heinz son age 7 yrs " " Inez Marie Heinz daughter 5 yrs " " Carol June Heinz daughter 4 yrs " " Leslie Eugene Heinz son 2 yrs " " Lyle Frank Heinz son 6 months " " Mae must have wanted to change Uncle Lyle's middle name from Kenneth (his birth name) to Frank after her husband died, but never made the legal steps to have that done. The ages of the kids is somewhat off- but Floyd would have turned 7 in less than two months and Leslie would have been two the following spring, Lyle was only 5 months old, etc. The death date seems to be the one accurate date on this document, since it was to do with his death. Frank had not written out a will- and so at his death everything went to Probate. (Kathy Brown) have 38 pages copied by the Probate court in Ontonagon County that all state Frank died on the 17th of Nov------ not the 14th as given me by Joanne Howse.

That was 5 children in less than seven years, and a widow by the age of 25 Mae was still petitioning for the final probate items concerning the death of Frank on the 20 of Sept 1923 and was identified as " Mae Weyenberg, formerly Mae Heinz, Administratrix, (asking) to sell at private sale the interest of said estate in certain real estate therein descirbed" at this time they lived in Topaz, Mich. Topaz was also where Margaret Heinz Osier lived with her husband Leon Osier who was for a period of time the administrator of the probate after Frank's death. Matchwood M. Mae Louise Higgins b. in Wisconsin Death: Personal knowledge of Darby L. H. Robison - also see Petoskey News Review for obituary on front page for info. Leslie Eugene Heinz stood about 5'10", had black curly hair ( became curly during his senior year of high school) and blue eyes. He was an engineer for Bell Telephone before it became Michigan Bell. He worked for the CCC camps during a year before he graduated to earn money for his senior year of high school. He served in WWII in communications in the army, in India, China areas. Dad was the Mayor of Harbor Springs for a while. He didn't run for the office, but was voted in by the town. He was a conscientious and popular mayor. That is where my older brother's nickname "Mayor" came from. Dad was raised, I believe, as a German Lutheran, but not very. When he married my mom he became Presbyterian. But he never felt easy in crowds and hence only went on holidays. He was a very good and moral man. When dad was 40 he had a major heart attack that completely changed his life. He had always worked longer and harder than most other men, and he had to learn how to relax. We got property up in the Upper Peninsula in Mich. and began to play. He bought an ATV, spent more time vacationing, and taught us to waterski. Dad died when he was 54 years old. His heart was too badly damaged to go any longer. KHB 5/1/97
