The newspaper said he hung himself. He was hard of hearing and very obstinant.
He was married to Mary Keller and then to Elizabeth Donohoe. There are
references to Germany on the cencus reports but on his recording in his family
record he writes clearly as if he were educated in this country. He records
also the death date of Joseph Henry Handgen on July 20, 1851, perhaps his
father. The census of 1870 for Scipio Twp. of Hillsdale Co. shows his place of
birth to be first Penn. then Germany with his parents being of foreign birth.
Perhaps he was born in Germany but grew up in the United States.

Joseph's father may be Joseph Henry HANDGEN who died 20 Jul 1851.
She died at the age of 22. She was born on 7 Feb, 1962 at ten minutes after one
o'clock in the morning. She died at 20 minutes after 11 o'clock in the evening
on the 27 th of August, 1884. This is recorded in her father's handwriting in
his family record. She was known as Barbry.
She was born at 8 o'clock in the morning. She appears on the census of 1880 as
age 16.

She was born on Saturday at 8 o'clock in the morning, 30 Sep 1865. This is
listed in the records kept by her father. She appears on the census records of
1880.
She was born at 4 o'clock in the morning.
She died at age 9 y.. She was born at 12 o'clock noon on Wednesday, 1 Feb
1871. She died at 10 minutes before seven o'clock in the afternoon on
Thursday. This is according to her father's records.
He married Elizabeth M. Donohue 15 Mar 1861 at Leipsic, Putnam, Oh . Elizabeth M. Donohue was born at 1823 .
