BURR REED
FARMER FOUND DEAD BENEATH TOPPLED TRACTOR - Burr Reed, Warren Township Farmer, Victim of Mishap -- Burr Reed, 72, of Marietta Rt. 4 was found dead early today beneath his overturned and burned tractor on his farm in Warren Twp., according to the sheriff's department. Ree left his house Friday evening, telling his wife he was going to pull locust posts with his tractor. When he failed to return, Mrs. Reed went shortly before midnight to the home of a neighbor, Lester Weeley, and asked him to look for her husband. Walking over the Reed farm off County Road 27, Weekley saw something smouldering at the bottom of a hill. Investigating, he found Reed's body beneath the charred tractor. A tire was still burning. Weekley went to the road and stopped a car driven by Corbett Bradley, who called the sheriff's department and the Warren Twp. Volunteer Fire Department. The fire was out when firemen arrived. Coroner Deane Northrup was investigating the death today to attempt to determine the cause. Deputies said the tractor apparently ran against some small trees, causing the front of the vehicle to raise and making it topple back, landing on the driver. It was said possible that Reed suffered a heart attack prior to the accident. Born May 21, 1890 in Washington County, he was a son of the late Aurelius and Henrietta Porter Reed. He was a member of Warren Chapel Mehodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Florence Mercer Reed, and two brothers Henry and Frank, both of Marietta. Funeral arrangements with Doudna and McClure Funeral Home are incomplete.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Florence Mercer Reed, 81, of 230 7th St., who died at her home Sunday morning, will be held Wednesday at 10:20 a.m. at the Douglas & McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Tunnel Cemetary. She was born in Warren Twp., O., daughter of the late Douglas and Flora Burchett Mercer and had lived there until moving to Marietta several years ago. She was a member of the Warren Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her husband, Burr Reed, October 25, 1963, and a brother, while one nephew and one niece, Harold Mercer of Taiwan, and Mrs. Dorothy Boyd of Marietta survive.
