Historical detail in NOTES IGI "Baggate"TB - Ayr OPRs record the marriage of 'Allan' McRae, apothecary s urgeon in Ayr, and Susanna Baggat, daughter to the deceased Jos eph Baggate, merchant in Ayr.Susannah Baggate was the daughter of Joseph Baggate b.abt. 1660 and Susannah Kennedy. Her grandfather Joseph Bygait was a Cromwellian soldier and arrived in Ayr in the 1650's with the regiment of foot of Colonel Thomas Cooper, part of the Cromwellian occupation army in Scotland which had arrived in Scotland to form a garrison in the fortress in Ayr. This regiment had originally been recruited in London and had later been brought up to strength by men from the North West of England, including Lieutenant-Colonel Roger Sawrery from the Furness area.
He married Susanna Baygat 18 Nov 1708 at Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland . Susanna Baygat was born at Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland 18 Apr 1688 daughter of Joseph Baygat and Susanna Kennedy .
