Taken from the "Republican - Leader", Arcadia, Wisconsin, dated
Thursday Morning August 25, 1881. Under LOCAL MATTERS, DIED
ROBERTSON-On Tuesday morning, August 23,1881, Narcissa T wife of
Robert L. Robertson, aged 59 years, 11 months and 20 days.
Mrs. Narcissa T. Robertson was born in Martinsburgh, Lewis Co. N.Y. Sept.
2, 1821, being the third child of Smith and Dorathy Tracey. At the age of
14 her mother died and the care of her Father's household devolved upon
her. In 1838 her father removed to Pitcairn, St Lawrence Co. N.Y., where
Jan. 4, 1846, she marries Robert L. Robertson. Her husband moved from
Pitcairn to Oswego Co. N.Y. where they resided two year; then to
Lafayette Co. Wisconsin in 1854. In 1857, they settled in this town
where they have since resided. Mrs. Robertson was the mother of four
children; the youngest William, died in 1860; the other three, Smith T.,
John L., and Fernando are living here and with their father gave her every
attention during her last illness. Of her father's family an older brother
Squire Tracey and the younger children, Harmon G, and Maron Tracey
survive her. Mrs. Robertson as a kind neighbor, a faithful friend and an
affectionate relative endeared herself to all who knew her here. Her
illness was long and painful but was borne with fortitude unto the end
when Death, like a sweet sleep gave her rest.
HISTORY OF TREMPEALEAU COUNTY - Published 1917 (Wisconsin)
Methodist Episcopal Church of Arcadia. The organization of this society
was perfected in 1857, under the auspices of an itinerant minister of
the Wesleyan faith, with Collins Bishop, Anna Bishop, NARCISSA
ROBERTSON and and Rhoda Shelly as the constituent members. Services
were conducted at the residences of members until an increase in the
members of the congregation required more extensive quarters, when the
school house was secured and appropriated to their uses. This was
continued until 1876 when preparation looking to the erection of a house
of worship, meanwhile in progress, took shape, and resulted in the
building of the present edifice, which was completed during that year at
a cost of $5,000. It is of frame, of a quaint Elizabethan order of
architecture, handsomely finished, and with accomodations for a
congregation of 500 persons.
