William DIBB
Parish Register - Otley Parish, Otley, Yorkshire, England (FHL#918,401), Marriage to Ann Kendall, Spinster, p 179
1841 Census - District 11, Weston, Yorkshire, England
1851 Census - Askwith, Yorkshire, England
RESEARCH NOTE: William Dibb, a farmer, and wife Mary are shown to have had children in Snowden, Weston, Yorkshire between 1811 and 1829, Mary then died in 1831. Marriage record to Mary states that William is of Weston, and Mary is of Fewston. There was only one William Dibb of this age in Weston. - William Dibb, farmer of Snowden, is again shown having children with wife Ann beginning in 1834, though the marriage was not recorded in Weston Parish Records. Parish records continue until 1847, after which we have no records at the FHL. The last entry in the parish record is a burial record for Ann Dibb of Newall in Oxley, age 16(?), no parents or husband given, no relation known. Weston Bishop's Transcripts contain William's own birth info, Children's birth information, Mary's death. William's first son John was buried on the same day that his second child named John was christened, verified in the parish records. - William Dibb is enumerated on the 1841 Census in Snowden, Weston, Yorkshire, England with what is assumedly his second wife Ann, and children from his marriages to Mary and Ann. If this is really his wife, her birthdate is estimated too low. William's birthdate is estimated too, and supports the theory that Ann's birthdate is also an estimate. - Shoebox Genealogy, 2008 NOTE FROM FAMILY RECORDS: William DIBB is shown as the father of James DIBB and father-in-law of Elizabeth HARTLEY in the Entry of Marriage of James and Elizabeth. A copy of the Entry of Marriage is in the possession of Bruce Dibb of Bountiful, Utah.
NOTE FROM FAMILY RECORDS: The 1881 British Census shows James living at age 69 in Paddock House in Clifton with Norwood (also written as Clifton Cum Norwood) with his wife, Elizabeth at age 60. The Census indicated that James is a farmer of 48 acres. At the time of the 1881 Census, he only had one of his children, Sarah Jane (age 14) living at his home. He also had a grandaughter and a grandson living at his home. OCCUPATION: 1841 - Gabber? RESEARCH NOTE: Family Records had a death date of "Abt 1877" for James, although he is located on the 1881 census, but not located on the 1891 census. A search of the Death records shows a James Dibb, born 1811, died first quarter of 1890 in Wharfedale. GRO records index: Vol 9a page 115. The date has been added to the family group sheet, although it still needs confirmation. Also, the 1841 census in Askwith shows a James Dibb, living with several other unmarried adult men, with rough date approximations. It might be the direct line ancestor James Dibb, or it might be his cousin, son of his father's brother John Dibb. - Shoebox Genealogy, 2008
Nancy was born in Snowden, Weston, Yorkshire, England, to William and Mary Dibb of Snowden, William was a farmer. this information was gathered from the Bishop's Transcripts of Weston, fhl# 918,405. The death record in Fewston gives the name of Ann, which is interchangable with the name Nancy. The next daughter born was named Nancy, following naming patterns perfectly.
This is an odd naming, seeing that there is already a James in the family. This would suggest that the older James died before this one was born, although, we find him on the 1881 Census with the 1811 Birthdate. All evidence points to this being the correct family, having some children christened in Weston, with several in the middle christened in Fewston, further research may be necessary. The information for the second James came from ordinance work done by Barbara Whitaker
