Bloomington was killed while serving in the Union Army. He was originally buried at Lee's Creek. Then moved to the Fayetteville AR National Cemetary, Sec 9 #794. According to family records: killed "at the age of 16 while guarding the mail from Van Buren to Ft Smith, was ambushed & killed.....this being during the civil war." according to the family he was buried at the roadside with no grave marker and never found. According to others: Killed in the Union Army 8-14-1864 by the enemy in crawford Co AR while on detached service, carrying mail between Cassville Mo & Ft Smith AR, age 19. Buried Lees Creek 17 miles n of Van Buren AR, later moved to Fayettville Arkansas's National Cemetary, Sec 9 #794 19 years at age of date. Military Papers read: I certify on honor, that Bloomington I Dotson, private, of Captain Frank Strongs Company L of the 1st regiment of Calvalry volunteers, of the State of Arkansas, age 19 years; 5' 7"s high; dark complexion, black eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer, ... having enrolled in it as its original organization ... or was mustered in service as a recruit, by Lieut, E B Harrison at Fayetteville AR on the 29th day of April 186_ ...for the term of three years: and having served honestly and faithfully with his Company in Camp and field to the present date, in now entitled to a discharge by reason of Death Aug 14 1864. (See endorsement) The said Bloomington I Dotson was last paid by paymaster date of enlistment to inlcude the 18th day of March 1864 and has pay due him fro mthat time to the present date; he is entitled to pay and subsistence for soldiers, drafted men, or militia so discharged. He has received from the United States clothing amounty to $53.38, since the 18th day of March 1864, when his clothing account was last settled. He has received from the United States no bounty.
