Note: according to Bibliography pag 277, Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region - Ramfire Press, reprinted 1956 ... Colonel Eli Dodson (Boone Co AR) reads: This gentleman is the intelligent, trustworthy and efficient county and probate judge of Boone County AR and in his official capacy has comported himself with dignity, good sound judgement and judicial fairness. He has resided in the county since 1881, but has been a resident of northwest Arkansas since 1852, whither he came from Madison County AR in 1834. Served as State Legislature from 1866 until reconstruction. Elected county and probate judge of Marion Co in 1878, served till 1880. He was born on his father's farm in White County TN May 22 1828, the only child of Eli and Mary (Goad) Dodson, the former of whom was born in VA in 1798, a son of William Dodson who helped free this country from British rule by serving in the Revolutionary War. Eli, the father, died before his son was born and he was also left motherless when two and 1/2 years old. He was reared by his uncle Alexander Goad, and came with him to this state. it goes on further to state: married #1 1847 to Miss Rhoda C Cantrel, dau of Abner Cantrell 12 children: William Y, Mary, Margaret, James A, Elizabth, Martha D, Rhoda A, Virginia, Eli S, Alice, Melvina R, Leota B Rhoda died Apr 14 1870 married #2 Mary F Hastings who lived only a few months after their marriage, dying Feb 1871 married #3 Mary Cantrell a sister to his first wife, 9 children: Lena M, Missouri and Katie living, Ellen C, Hattie G, Lillie D and Rosa M (twins), Louetta A, Floyd R deceased. Abner Cantrell, father of Mrs Dotson, settled in Madison Co AR in 1835, later moving to what is now Boone Co. Died in Marion Co in 1891 at age 97. Eli Dodson was colonel of the 14 AR Infantry, CSA and commanded his regiment at Pea Ridge where he was wounded severly in the hip. After convelescence joined his regiment at Memphis just after the battle of Shiloh. His health required his resignation in the fall of 1863.
He married Nancy Raynor Abt 1796 at of Virginia . Nancy Raynor was born at of Rockingham, North Carolina Abt 1779 daughter of (poss) Henry Raynor and (poss) Anna Goats .
