    The birth dates for the children of Joseph Laney and Elizabeth are taken from "Laney Lineage and Legacy" by Guy B. Funderburk, pp. 18-19.  It will be noted that several of the children share the same birth date.  While family tradition holds that John and William were twins (p. 38), the other birth dates are not confirmed.  "Joseph m. Elizabeth and had a daughter, Eleanor, and tradition says 12 sons.  Another mentions 'the father of John Laney who had many sons' (AML-UT).  Only 6 or 7 are now positively identified." - "Laney," p. 18
