David served in the Civil War and rose to the position of Adjutant, who is the person in charge of official correspondence and orders. In civilian life he was a school teacheer. He married (1) Cynthia Ann Wombles, who died in 1871, and then married (2) Lucinda Jane Capps who died in 1889. He married (3) Nancy C. Hisey. He was very patriotic toward the U.S. He was a Republican and active in the Primitive Baptist (Hardshell Baptist) church.
