3 or 4 years and only recently he and his wife went to Waukesa, Wisconsin, in
the hope of his receiving benefit from the waters, but in that they were
disappointed. They came back to St. Louis about the 25th of last month and he
went to the Baptist sanitarium for treatment, but got no relief. On Friday
last, Sept. 5, he died at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 4 days . His body
was brought to Troy Saturday evening and on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'c lock
funeral services were held at the home of Charles A. Holmes by Rev. L . V.
Edwards, after which the remains were interred at the city cemetery.
Besides his widow, he leaves two sons, Tobe, of Troy, and Robert , of New
Florence; two daughters, Mrs. W. R. Holmes of St. Louis and Mrs. W. C . Hughes
of Montgomery City, together with many relatives and friends. He was a good
man and an honest, upright citizen. Though not a member of any church, he held
to the belief of the Primitive Baptists and had professed a hope in Christ some
years before his death. Peace to the askes of one who was highly esteemed by
all who knew him. (Troy Free Press, Troy, Missour, issue of 12 Sep 1 902)
