                         Information on this family obtained from family records of Josep h Henry
Gillis, deceased, formerly of Spokane, Washington and from the IGI Ad dendum of
1994.  William Gillies has the Ancestral File Number 1D78-MX.  The An cestral
File shows William to be the fifth of 11 children born to John Gillie s and
Margaret Mitchell.  The marriage license of William to Florentine Ros e Messmer
in Dawson county, Montana, states he is the son of John Gillies and M argaret
Mitchell and that he was born in Scotland.

                      Florentine was known by her family as Florence.  She was married to (1) Johannes (John) Fries in Ukraine, immigrated to the U. S. with him, divorced him and married (2) William M. Gillies (pronounced Gillis).  More inf ormation is recorded in the Messmer family records. Information for this fami ly was obtained from Stumpp page 769 family 933.  This source is the only record of their daughter, Katerina Fries, who probably died before Johannes and Florentine immigrated to America in 1892 as she is never mentioned again.

                         William was killed in a mining accident when he was age 16 and i s buried
at Tracy, Cascade, Montana.  During World War I he was a tipple boy a t the
Lochery mine at Tracy.  A tipple boy handles the elevator and dumps c oal into
railroad cars.

                         Stephen married Mary Cochran.  They had a son, Stephen, who ente red the
field of education and lived in San Francisco.  They had a son, Delbe rt, who
lived in Potlatch, Idaho.  Stephen, senior, completed eighth grade . He was
killed in an auto accident in Spokane and is buried there.

                         Florence was born at Dry Fork near Lake Francis, near Valier, Po ndera
county, Montana.  Florence married (1) John Jones in 1929-1930.  The y had a
son, John Jones, born in Three Forks, Montana.  John Jr. worked at Me ad
Aluminum (Kaiser Aluminum plant) in Spokane.  Florence married (2) Cl arence
Best, and married (3) ----- -----, a bookkeeper.  She married (4) War ren G.
Richardson, an auto painter and body man.  As a young man, Warren liv ed in
Springdale, near Valley,  Washington.  Florence ran her own beauty sh op in
Spokane, Washington until she was past 70 years of age.
