Nelson Herman LENHART
John was Constable in September of 1898 when he deputized his brother,John, to arrest S.P. Meyers. John was killed by Meyers while trying toarrest him. The full story is under John's NOTES.
Note that on the headstone of Virginia, it was a bit marked up and thescriber of the cemetery put Virginia's middle initial as a "C".
Homer's obituary appeared in the "MEYERSDALE REPUBLICAN", May 4, 1967: HOMER B. LENHART "Homer Benjamin Lenhart, 80, died April 26, in Bedford County MemorialHospital where he had been a patient for six weeks. Born in Garrett, he was a son of theLate Nelson and Virginia (Bowman) Lenhart. A retired employee of the Baltimore and OhioRailroad Company, he was a veteran of World War I and hel membership in Central ChristianChurch and Oscar Jordan Post 7375, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, theformer Allie Bradigan; a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Siegner, Hyndman; a grandchild; andthese brothers and sisters: Earl Lenhart, Somerset; McKinley and Philson, Garrett; Mrs.Fannie Christner, Denver; and Mrs. James Norris, Boonsboro. Funeral service was held atZeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Saturday afternoon, with Revs. James Ryan and H.B.Rittenhouse officiating. Internment was made in Hyndman cemetery, with honorsaccorded by the color guard of Bedford Post, American Legion."

Following is the obituary for Earl in the "DAILY AMERICAN" newspaperdated November 10, 1977: LENHART "Earl C. Lenhart, Sr., 85, of Listie, died Nov 8, 1977 in SomersetCommunity Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1891 at Garret, son of the late Nelson and Virginia (Bittner)Lenhart. Preceded in death by his first wife, the former Leta Fern Pritts; a daughter, twobrothers and two sisters. Survived by widow the former Emma Forney and these children: J. Jerry ofClinton, MD.; Earl C. Jr., Somerset RD 1; Pauo, Hamburg, Mich.; Jack, Philadelphia;Homer, DeBary, Mich.; Mrs. Allegra Bodine, Hamburg, Mich.; Mrs. Quentin (Jean) Mong,Muncie, Ind.; and these step-children: Mrs. Glenn (Helen) Wheeler, Somerset; Mrs. Elwood(Francis) Whip- perman, Friedens RD 1; Mrs. Harold (Mary Etta) Urban, Listie; 25grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and by a sister." NOTE: this edition says hismother was the former Virginia (Bittner) Lenhart, but subsequent and future news articles onother family members says her name is Virginia (Bowman) Lenhart.

Born Oct. 22, 1896 in Garret, a son of the late Nelson andVirginia (Bowman) Lenhart. Survived by his wife, the former Clara Moyle and thesechildren: Andrew of Garrett; James, Richard and Terry, all of York; Robert of Lancaster;Glenn of Rockwood RD 1; Bernard of Windsor; Walter of Garrett RD 1; Stanley of Manchester;Mrs. Dorothy Yoder of Warren, Ohio; Mrs. Vivian Ludden of Meyersdale; and Mrs. BessieChristner of Baden; 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A brother of Earl ofListie; and Mrs. Violet Norris of Hancock, MD. He was a veteran of World War I, and was amember of Company C. Also a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church.Friends will be re- ceived from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the PriceFuneral Home, Meyersdale. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the UnitedMethodist Church, Garrett, where the body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until time ofservice with the Rev. Paul Snyder officiating. Internment, Highland Cemetery, Garrett."
Philson's obituary was in teh "MEYERSDALE REPUBLICAN", May 24, 1973: PHILSON L. LENHART "Philson L. Lenhart, 72, of Garrett, died May 18, 1973, at hisresidence. Born in Garrett, June 30, 1900, he was a son of Nelson H. and Virginia (Bauman) Lenhart.Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma Grant; eight children, Charles of York; Guy andMrs. George (Joyce) Nicklow, Thomasville; Belmont of Boynton; Jay of Hellem; Homer,Wellsville; Mrs. Bernard (Thelma) Nolte and Mrs. Howard (Sarah) Gary of Garrett; also 23grandchildren, one great- grandchild; two brothers, William McKinley Lenhart, Garrett, and Earl ofListie; and a sister, Mrs. James (Violet) Norris, Boonesboro, MD. He was a retired miner and amember of the United Methodist Church of Garrett. Funeral service was held Mondayafternoon in the United Methodist Church, Garrett, with Rev. Paul E. Snyder and Rev.William E. Phennicie officiating. Internment in Highland Cemetery, Garrett."
