       Harry worked three years with a watch repairman while attendingschool 1914-16.  He took a correspondence course from the North WesternSchool of Taxidermy, Omaha, Nebraska; shot and mounted a chicken hawk forhis project and received a diploma May 5, 1916.
       Harry started to work on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad atConnellsville, PA., 25 April 19717, as a carpenter's helper.  His firstjob was in the ice house at Connellsville.  On 2 Aug 1926 he becamebridge inspector and went back to work on the 'gang' Oct 31, 1926.  Harrycontinually changed from the Carpenter Gang, Paint Gang and ScaleInspector job from 1927 through 1939 so he could keep employed to providefor his family through the "Depression Era".
       While Harry was with the B&O Railroad, he was furloughed so heattended the Rake Auto and Tractor School, Cincinnati, OH and receivedhis diploma March 10, 1924.
       He belonged to the National Scale Association for 25 years and was ascale inspector when he retired from the B&O April 25, 1964 after 47years service. Harry's father, George Washington, was an assistant scaleinspector for the B&O prior to his death Feb 18, 1934.   {end}

Harry W. Lenhart, 74, of Confluence died Nov. 19 at his home.  Born June12, 1899 in Somerfield, PA., a son of the late George W. and Maggie (VanSickle) Lenhart.  He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Smith; oneson George of Beaufort, S.C.; two daughters Mrs. Carolyn Cook of DistrictHeights, Md. and Mrs. Miram Glessner of Pittsburgh; five grandchildrenand one sister, Mrs. Lucy Beggs of Confluence.  Preceded in death by oneson, Joseph.  He was a member of the Confluence Trinity Lutheran Church,Somerset Lodge no 358, F. and A.M., Ancient accepted Scottish Rite Valleyof Pittsburgh, the Syria temple of Pittsburgh, the Tall Cedar of Lebanonand the Knights of Pythias of Confluence.  Friends will be received after7 p.m. Tuesday at the Humbert Funeral Home Confluence where funeralservices will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gordan Edwardsofficiating.        Alice Elizabeth Smith graduated from high school in 1923, theschool's first four year class consisting of six boys and one girl.These students were: William Harold Black, John Ross Anderson, CharlesHenry Stark, James Orville VanSickel, Robert Marshall Fisher, ChesterStanford Bird and Alice Elizabeth Smith.  Commencement exercises wereheld Friday evening, May 25, 1923 at eight o'clock at Seller's Hall.
       Alice took a course at Southwestern State Normal, California, PA(California University of PA today).  She taught all grades in a one-roomschool house for one year at Brushtown School - located at theintersection of Jersey Hollow Road and Draketown Road before her marriageto Harry Washington Lenhart.  {end}

Alice E. Lenhart, 92, of Confluence died Nov. 25, 1994 at Jefferson HillsManor, Pleasant Hills.  Born March 23, 1902, in Confluence.  A daughterof the late Daniel E. and Jennie (Field) Smith.  Preceded in death by herhusband, Harry W., and a son, Joseph L.  Survived by son, Capt. George E.Lenhart, U.S.M.C. Ret., of Beaufort, S.C., and two daughters, Carolyn J.Cook of District Heights, MD., and Miriam D. Glessner of Pleasant Hills.Five grandchildren:  Susan E. Lenhart, Sandra L. Garner, Brian K. Cook,Harry D. Glessner and Lynda G. Gumm.  Six great-grandchildren:  Robertand James Garner, Stephen, Jennifer and David Cook, and Christopher J.Gumm.  Also a brother, Daniel E. Smith of Pittsburgh, and a sister, PearlHunter of Markleysburg.  Member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Confluenceand Trinity Chapter 138, O.E.S., of Somerset.  Friends will be receivedfrom 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence, whereservices will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. John Palkoofficiating.        Joseph L. Lenhart
     Joseph L. Lenhart, 169 Water St. West Newton, died Monday in West PennHospital, Pittsburgh.  He was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Confluence, the sonof Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lenahrt of Confluence, and was member of the WestNewton Church of God.  Mr. Lenhart was the station agent for the B & ORailroad in West Newton, and was a member of the F. & A.M., SomersetLodge.
     Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow, Mrs MargaretBurkhart Lenhart; two sisters, Mrs. Miriam Glessner of Pleasant Hills andMrs. Carolyn Cook of District Heights, MD., and one brother, George E.,Beaufort, S.C.
     Friends are being received at the J. William McCauley Funeral Home,west Newton, from 2 to 4, and 7 to 10 p.m.
     Services in the funeral home will be held Thursday at 11 a.m, withRev. J. Arnold Berg officiating.  Interment will be in the HillgroveCemetery.  McCauley Funeral Home, West Newton in charge. {end}
