He was born and reared in Warfordsburg, the son of A. Lincoln and Darcas (Bichen) Slayman. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsport. A veteran of World War 1, he served 14 months overseas in Company K, 313th Infantry. Besides his wife, Nannie (Kendall) Slayman, he is survived by daughters: Mrs. Ralph Bartles; Misses Elizabeth and Nancy Slayman, at home; sons, Guy L., Edward L., and William A. Slayman, Hagerstown; Pfc. Robert L. Slayman, U.S. Army at Fort Benning; John W., George K., Edwin T. and Eugene R. at home; one grandson; sisters, Mrs. Clinton Trumpower; Mrs. David Trumpower; Mrs. James Kerns and Mrs. Davis Kershner, Clearspring; Mrs. Carl Austin, Chambersburg; brothers, W. Gail Slayman, Indain Springs; Perry Slayman and Clarence Slayman Brunswick. Funeral services from the A.K. Coffman Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. Edward P. Heinze officiating; interment in Antietam National Cemetery at Sharpsburg with full military honors. She is survived by three daughters, Etta Bartles, Elizabeth Clowdis and Nancy Moats, all of Hagerstown; six sons, Edward L. Slayman of Newport Ritchie, Fla., George K. Slayman of Smithsburg, John W. Slayman of Williamsport, Robert L. Slayman of Salley, S.C., and William A. Slayman and Elvin T. Slayman, both of Hagerstown; and 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with the Rev. A. Bernard Coates officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour before the service. Before his illness, he had been employed for 18 years at Fairchild Aircraft Division. Mr. Slayman was a member of the Church of the Brethren, the Home Builders Sunday School Class, William D. Byron Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a charter member of the Dixon-Troxell Post No. 211, American Legion, Funkstown. Surviving are wife, Pearl (Stotlemeyer) Slayman; son, Larry Eugene, at home; mother, Nannie (Kendle) Slayman; brothers, Edward L., Hagerstown; George K., Williamsport; Robert L., with the armed forces in Germany; John W., Hagerstown; Elvin, Hagerstown; Eugene R., Hagerstown; William A., Maugansville; sisters, Mrs. Ralph Bartles, Miss Elizabeth N. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oakleaf cluster. He had served as Sergeant Major of the ROTC at Worfford College. He was a member of the Salley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eva Stair Slayman; three daughters, Katherine Lee Scheffing of Sevallia, Ky., Deborah Bjork of Cedar Creek, S.C., and Barbara J. Slayman of Salley; one son, Robert C.
