James Slayman died at his home in Bethel township, on Friday, January 5, 1894, aged about 76 years. Interment in the Bethel churchyard on the Sunday following. Mr. Slayman was an excellent citizen and neighbor. Seven children-four sons and three saughters-survive him: Miss Mattie Slayman, who resided with the deceased; Mrs. Cornella Fayette, Clearspring; Mrs. Jane A. Souders, Everett; William, Everett; Charles, McKeesport; Samuel and Lincoln, Bethel. State of Virginia - To Wit: In the County Court of Morgan County August Term 1839. James Sliman of Lenock Shire Scotland aged about twenty four years, and bearing allegiance to Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland who emigrated from Leverpool, and arrived at New York on the first June 1836, and intends to reside within the Jurisdiction and under the Government of the United States, makes report of himself for naturalization, and declares on oath, in open Court, (it being a Court of Record) that it is bonafide his intention to become a citizen of the United States of America; and to renounce and adjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate State, and Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, according to the several Acts of Congress in such made and provided. In testimony whereof I Jacob Reichard Clerk of the said Court, do hereto set my name and affix the seal, of said Court the 26th day of August in the year 1839, and in the 64th of American Independence. He was born in Morgan county, West Virginia, March 16, 1842. He married Miss Mary W. Tate of Fulton county, who still survives with six children. She is survived by four children, Charles, James, Mrs. David Robinson and Mrs. Newman Corwell, all of Clearspring; one brother, Lincoln Slayman, Big Pool; one sister, Mattie Slayman, Clearspring. Funeral services Monday morning at 10 o'clock, at the home in Clearspring, and interment in Rose Hill Cemetery, Clearspring. He was born and reared at Warfordsburg, Pa. and a lifelong member of the Methodist church of that place. He is survived by his wife, Dorcas V. Slayman, and the following sons and daoghters: Mrs. Clinton Trumpower, Clearspring; Mrs. C.M. Austin, Halfway; Mrs. David Trumpower, Dry Run; Mrs. J.S. Kerns, and Mrs. David Kershner, Clearspring; Guy, Perry and Clarence Slayman, Hagerstown; W. Slayman, Indian Springs, and Wilbur, at home. He also leaves a sister, Martha Slayman, Clearspring, 37 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services at St. Paul's church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, the Rev. J. Wade Huffman officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
