J. Newman Corwell, 84, of Rt. 2, died early Tuesday morning at the
Washington County Hospital.  He was born in Fairfield, Pa., the son of
Anna Kane and Charles Corwell, and had resided in this area for
approximately 55 years.  He was a retired farmer and a member of St.
John's Church of Christ.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances C.
Faith Corwell; one daughter, Mrs. Helen F. Lung of Hagerstown; one son,
Max Corwell, Clear Spring; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Wilson and Mrs. Ruth
Gasking, both of Baltimore, and six grandchildren.  Funeral services will
be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ.
The Rev. Kenneth Cherry will officiate.  Burial will be in Rose Hill
Cemetery in Clear Spring.  Friends may call at the Thompson Funeral Home
here anytime after 9 a.m. Wednesday.  The body will lie in state at the
church one hour prior to the services.
