PENNSYLVANIA: The following are from various sources: 1828 - Oct 2, born in Northampton Co, PA - 7th and the youngst child born to Johannes & Catharine. 1829 - Jan 11, christened in Salem Union Church, Moorestown, Moore Twp, Northampton Co, PA 1837 - age 7 moved to Redbank Twp, Armstrong Co. w/ parents, Johannes & Catharine & 6 siblings 1840 - Census - included with father, John Groover - 1 wife, 4 sons, 2 daughters (George is youngest) 1850 - Census - his parents, John age 70 and Catharine age 62 are in Redbank Twp, Clarion Co, PA; George is listed as Jacob in the census but he's the youngest son, 22 yrs old and still at home. Jacob was listed a few homes earlier. 1851 - his father died, Redbank Twp, Clarion Co, PA 1862 - Sep 4, enlisted as Private in Co. E, 4th Regiment of Ohio Infantry MICHIGAN: The following is from the "Isabella County (Michigan) Portrait and Biographical", pub 1884: 1828 - born in Northampton County, PA; Father's 2nd wife is his mother; Siblings are Peter, Christina, Henry, Hannah, John, and Andrew J. 1837 - age 9, family moved to Clarion County, PA 1843 - age 17, apprenticed for three years to learn the tanner's trade 1846 - worked as a tanner for seven years 1850 - Dec 25, married Mary M. Best in Clarion Co, PA 1859 - moved to Wayne County, OH - employed at different occupations 1862 - August, enlisted as a private in the Fourth Michigan Vol. Inf.; served until end of Civil War. 1863 - December, purchased 40 acres of land on Coe Township, Isabella County, MI 1865 - June 6, discharged; served 2 yrs 9 m 2 days 1865 - Discharged at Alexandria, VA; returned to PA for a short time 1865 - September, moved to Isabella County, MI 1870 - Census, George is 42 yrs and wife Mary is 40 yrs - Coe Twp, Isabella, MI 1888 - January, his wife Mary died. 1890 - June / Census - Veterans Index - Shepherd, Isabella Co, MI - enlisted Ohio Inf. 4 Sep 1862 1900 - June / Census - age 71 widowed, in Coe Twp, Isabella Co, MI, farmer, lives alone. 1900 - Feb, headstone inscription says he died Febrary 1900. Community Service - various school offices; Constable for one year; Community Groups - Grange movement; Salt River Lodge No.288, F.& A.M.
