NAME: YODER/YORDY
NAME: YODER/YORDY Hi, These last e-mail are very helpful as you give places and dates. With the name Yordy I was thinking of Sterling IL area in the late 1800s. But now I see that you are looking at Lancaster in the 1700s that makes all the difference. The following is the same connections to the Neff L-Line and we are beginning to believe that John Neff L is John Neff B-Line as follows John Neff L-Line By John F. Murray - August 19, 1999 Listing 144 descendants for 6 generations. ______________________________________________ GENERATION NO. 1 .L John NEFF was born Aug 1761 in Lancaster, PA. John died Jan 1844 in Center Co., PA, Howard Twp., Bald Eagle Creek, at the age of 82, and was buried in Center Co., PA, Howard Twp., Shank Cem. He married Elizabeth ...... She was born 15 Jun 1763 in Lancaster Co.?, PA. Elizabeth died 5 Aug 1850 in Center Co., PA, Howard Twp., Bald Eagle Creek, at the age of 87, and was buried in Center Co., PA, Howard Twp., Shank Cem. Known children of John NEFF and Elizabeth ..... are: .L1 John Barnhart NEFF b. 18 Jul 1783 d. 25 Sep 1855 .L2 Barbara NEFF b. 12 Dec 1784 d. 6 Oct 1874 .L3 Elizabeth (Betsy) NEFF b. 6 Feb 1787 d. 8 Aug 1877 .L4 Catharine NEFF b. 4 May 1789 d. 20 Nov 1872 .L5 Nancy NEFF b. 29 Jan 1792 d. 6 May 1865 .L6 Jacob B. Curtin. Died at the home of her son-in-law Jacob Holter, from Eileen Rhoades, Howard, PA 11-94;. NOTES for John: Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage Magazine, July-87; p. 13-17. Article by Richmond Neff. He was first buried in Sand Hill Cemetery, however when the dam was built there he and his wife were moved to the Old Shank Cemetery in Howard Twp. nr. Curtin. Possible member of the [B] line descending from John Neff [B15] and Catherine Gerber, dau of Christian Gerber, born in Manor twp. Lancaster Co., PA, but no evidence has been found to prove this assumption. 5-96. There is a land list which has a John, Jacob and Daniel Neff searching for land in the area. If this is three brothers then Jacob and Daniel settled in Huntingdon Co and John settled in Centre Co. But we have no proof that the three names on the land search were three brothers. ______________________________________________ GENERATION NO. 2 .L2 Barbara NEFF (.L.John1) was born 12 Dec 1784 in PA County. Pletcher file at the Lan. Menn. Hist. Historical has a manuscript with no author on this family. Say's William was son of Samuel Pletcher and Elizabeth Yetta. 11-94, Group sheet from Dana Mireles shows date of death as 2 June 1857, no source given. NOTES for Barbara: >From John Murray's fall 1991 update sheets. Now I suggest not Yoder but Yordy is the name. Yordy was the Mennonite name from Lancaster while Yoder is Amish and I have many Yoders in my background and I Think we know about all the Yoder families in the 1700s. Now for Yordy. Michael Pletcher, Ulrich Yordy, Ulrich Everly, and Jacob Bare lived in Martic Township next to Jacob Brand in 1744. Ulrich Yordy was perhaps the son of Peter Yordy of Lampeter Twp. who immigrated in 1718 and was Naturalized in 1729. He was born about 1695 and died a bout 1765 in Lampeter Twp, Lancaster Co. However with a name like Ulrich and knowing that Mennonites didn't use that name much, I feel that you will find that Ulrich himself was an immigrant and perhaps a recent convert to the Mennonite faith after birth. So I check the Strassberger set of Ship Lists the begin in 1727. And check the tax lists to see if he came earlier. And his name might be on the 1729 Naturalization lists. Where do you live and how much access do you have to a good genealogy library? I would have these available but I'm very busy doing other things as I still serve as an Overseer of 3 congregation in the Mennonite Church. Well, this is interesting. Let keep in touch.
