                   Received from Ora Flaningam She also sent thousands of names and extensive notes on others.

Adam Cramer was the progenitor of theCramer family. Information on most of his descendants comes from Mazie Cramer Emanuel(1993). Plus added references given below. The Somerset Co., PA estate abstract reads: "Estate #1 of 1820. Adam Cramer, Administrator bond filed Feb. 3, 1820. Admr's Samuel Cramer & Christian Cramer. Bondsmen John Webster & Michael Hugus. Rebecca Miller, late Rebecca Whipkey, petitions for guardian, Heir of her Grandfather's estate. Her grandfather being Adam Cramer. Isaiah Miller appointed. Heirs: Elizabeth, Samuel, Christian, Benjamin, John & Adam Jr. and David. Estate $1528.56 1/2." Adam Cramer born Oct. 15, 1745 and died Dec. 29, 1819. His marker in the Cramer-King cemetery at New Centreville, PA gives his birth year as 1747 rather than the 1745 of the family tradition. The marker is 'new' and a replacement for his original marker. The complete text of the marker reads: "In memory of Adam Cramer who was born 15th of October 1747 and died 22 of December 1819 aged 72 years 2 mo and 4 days. Father I give my spirit up and trust it in thy hands my dying flesh shall rest in hope and rise at thy command. I Text War 2 Capitel Luca 29 and 30 verses. Braddocks defeat. Vet of Revolutionary War." While there is supposed to have been an Adam Cramer, a wagoner, with Braddock's army in the French & Indian War, it is unlikely to have been this Adam. He would have been only 10 years old when Braddock was killed in 1755. Perhaps his father was the Adam of Braddock's army? The order of birth of the children has been the object of some uncertainty. Mazie Emanuel's sources gave the order as: Samuel, Susanna, Christian, John, Benjamin, Adam, David, Elizabeth. Ernest Cramer in data submitted to Somerset Co. Hist. & Gen. Soc. gives order as: Samuel, Benjamin, Christian, Elizabeth, Susannah, Adam, John and David. LDS Family Group Sheets give the order as: Samuel, Christian, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Susannah, Adam, John, David. We (OLF) take exception to two points in the LDS group sheets. (1) the LDS birth year of Adam, Jr. as 1785 is too early since in the 1820 census his age is given as 16-26. (2) Katherine Zufall as wife of Adam, Jr. is incorrect. Deeds by Adam, Jr. and wife give her name as Elizabeth. We believe Katherine Zufall was married to Adam, son of Christian. Based on census and other evidence we also believe that Benjamin was born before John. Samuel and Christian were almost certainly the 1st and 2nd sons. The order of birth of John, Adam & David is believed correct. Elizabeth may well be earlier in the birth order, possibly first as noted in the Estate Abstract. The order in this work: Samuel, Christian, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Susannah, John, Adam, David, is a compromise and is open to future revision.

The surname of Adam and his descendants is spelled a number of ways in census and other contemporary records. Different branches of the family also spell it different ways. Examples: Creemer (1790 census), Cramer, Creamer, Cremer, Cremor, Cremole (1810 census).

                   Samuel Cramer. Birth and death dates from his Bible record. Copy of this record is in the Somerset Co. PA Historical & Genealogical Soc. files. A letter of administration on his estate was granted to Samuel K. Cramer and John Cramer on June 10, 1840. The letter also notes that a renunciation by his widow, Rebecca had been accepted & filed. No Children are mentioned, however, in the records of a Somerset church, we find the births of the first four of the children of Samuel & Rebecca Cramer listed here. These names and dates are confirmed in the Bible records of Samuel Cramer. The names and data on the other children are from the Bible record. His family lived on the Dr. Hannah Farm near Casselman, Somerset Co., PA. Several of his children moved to Iowa. His descendants spelled the name "Cremer". In the sources of Mazie Emanuel, a number of his children appear to have been ascribed both to him and to his nephew Samuel, son of his brother Benjamin.

Rebecca CREMER, Widow of Samuel, remained in Somerset County until after the 1850 census, then moved to Agency, Iowa, where several of her sons also settled. Her bible descended into possession of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanna, Pulaski, Iowa.
===
The frontpiece page of the bible is missing. On the first blank page in Samuel Cremer's handwriting is "Samuel Cremers Book. Bought in the year of our Lord 1837. Price $4.00." Below this is written -- "The owner of this book died on the eleventh day of May 1840. Left to Michael Cremer."
===
This bible contained records of the births and deaths of family members.
===
Samuel CREMER is buried near Addison, PA along the National Road next to his son, James CREMER and wife Nancy. Samuel was a Captain in the War of 1812, and of German ancestry. According to a family history compiled by descendants living in Iowa, Rebecca was the daughter of Michael KING, of Somerset Co., PA who was a Methodist minister of considerable prominence and of English ancestry.
===
In 1954, two descendants, Ernest Cremer of Agency, IA, and Yvonne Brenneman of McKeesport, PA compiled a family chart of many of Samuel's descendants. A copy of this was given to Rosalie Hartinger and later to O.L. Flaningam, and was used with other data compiled by Ernest Cramer and used to write this history.

Benjamin Cramer & Mary Ann (Polly) King had 10 children. This is a major branch of the Cramer family. See the Cramer Family History by Ora L. Flaningam & Mazie Cramer Emanuel (Family History Library microfilm 2055164, It. 4, 1994). He lived on the Mason Farm near Casselman, Somerset Co, PA. In Mazie Emanual's original notes, this Benjamin was a son of John Cramer and grandson of Adam Cramer. This cannot be true since according to the available birth dates, when Benjamin's son Samuel K. Cramer is born, Benjamin's father, John Cramer, would only be 23. For this reason we have assumed that this Benjamin is actually the son of Adam and have exchanged the records of the two Benjamins. In the tax records of Somerset Co. he is listed from 1825 through 1843. There are no tax records for a second Benjamin until 1869 (Fayette Co.). In the 1820 census his age is in the range 26-45 (b. 1775-1794).

Christian Cramer. A note from Mazie Emanuel says he was the heir to Adam's farm, however, a bond (Somerset Co. deed 8-462, 9 Aug, 1817) and a deed (Somerset Co. 8-470, 9 Aug., 1817) appear to will the farm to Adam Cramer, Jr. with the proviso that Adam, Jr. provide for Adam, Sr. and Hannah after their
retirement. Both deeds were recorded in March 1820, after Adam Senior's death. We (OLF) photographed his marker in the Cramer-King Cem., May, 1995. This reads: "Christian Cramer Born Dec. 16, 1779, Died Oct 10, 1853, Aged 72 Yrs 9 mos and 15 days." The Marker is original. A quit-claim deed (Somerset Co. 28-270) mentions his widow, Mary E. Cramer and most of his children and their spouses: "Henry P.W. Cramer; Hanna Cramer, deceased, married to Peter Whipkey; Rebecca Cramer, deceased(?), married to David Whipkey; Martha Cramer, married to James White; Phoebe Cramer, married to Samuel Bittner; Elisabeth Cramer; Barbara Cramer, married to Samuel A. Mesena; and Catherine Cramer, married to Daniel Burkholder." Also mentioned is Josiah Miller, 'Agency of Phoebe Miller', and guardian of Rebecca Miller. Josiah is presumably a second(?) husband of Phoebe. Not mentioned in the deed is Samuel Cramer, or Mary Cramer, both of whom married, and Samuel is supposed to have left issue. Deed 28-270 is a quit claim for all payments on Christian's estate to be payable at his death, but mentioned an additional settlement to be made at the death of his widow. Although Rebecca is mentioned as deceased in Deed 28-270, she (Rebeka Misacher) and Martha (White), Elisabeth Cramer, and Susan Bumgard, Daughter of Hannah Cramer, all signed a power of attorney (Somerset Co. deed 29-378, 28 Jan., 1858) to obtain their inheritance after the death of Mary E. Cramer. They signed this POA in Marshall Co., Virginia.

                   Adam Cramer, Jr. According to Mazie Emanuel, he lived on "our place", the Cramer Farm in Salt Lick Twp., Fayette Co., from 1845 to 1858. This farm is still owned, 1998, by Mazie's family. Adam was listed in the Fayette Co. 1820 census as aged 16-26 (b. 1794-1804) with his mother(?) (aged over 45) living with him, and he was apparently unmarried. In the 1840 census, there were two males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 40-50 (Adam), 3 females 5-10 and 3 females 30-40 in the family. Since he is in Salt Lick Twp, Fayette Co. in 1820 and 1840 we believe he should be there in 1830, however we did not find him. Our only source for the names of his children is the original notes of Mazie Emanuel. Her sources gave the children's names as: Jacob, Adam, Philip, Sara, and Walter, but gives no dates.

Since there are several other "Adam Cramers", it is possible that one of the others was the one on the Salt Lick Farm. Adam K. Cramer, son of Christian also(?) resided in Salt Lick Twp., Fayette Co., and it's possible we have the two confused.

David Cramer. He lived on the Samuel Sanner farm. No children were known to Mazie Emanuel's sources. Mazie Emanuel's original birth year for him was 1825. This cannot be correct, since in 1825, his mother would be 66 or 68 years old, depending on which birth year is accepted for her. In 1802 she would be 43 or 45. He executed several deeds - one as late as 1865.
