Md. Catherine Mathes in Montgomery Co., Pa. He came to America and landed in
Montgomery Co., Pa. In 1776 in moved to Brothers Valley, then in Bedford Co.,
that part of which later became Somerset Co. His will is in the Somerset Co.
courthouse. In 1779 he paid taxes on 150 acres. On Jan 29, 1792 he received a
warrant for another 50 acres. The warrant is listed in Bedford Co. since that
part was not yet split off as Somerset Co. Previous temple submission, b.
1716. Probably wrong. As to children #1-#7, Philadelphia Co. would appear to
be correct as to birth place. Note: Berks Co. was created Oct 14, 1751 from
parts of Philadelphia, Chester, and Lancaster Cos; it was orgainzed in 1752.
From it came parts of Northunberland in 1772 and part of Schuylkill Co. in
1811. Lancaster Co. created in 1728 from part of Chester Co. From it came
york in 1748, Cambria in 1750, part of Berks in 1751, part of Northumberland in
1772, Dauphin in 1795, part of Lebanon in 1813. Somerset Co. created Apr 17,
1795 from part of Bedford Co. In 1804, Cambria was formed from it. Bedford,
created 3-9-1711 from part of Cumberland. Philadelphia Co originally created
in 1682. From i8t came Berks in 1751 and Montgomery in 1784. Brothersvalley
Twp., hence, originated in Phila. Co. and finally wound up in Somerset. Birth
1716, card, and sp 2 Aug 1994.
