                   Md. Catherine Custer (1), Susanna Allison (2).  His will is found in the
Bedford Co. Courthouse.  He died in 1889, and also was known as Johannes. John
moved to Somerset Co. about 1812 with his parents.  Member of Evangelical
Church.  Buried at Cuppet Cem., New Paris, Somerset, Pa.
From notes taken at personal interview with Dr. Alvin G. Faust in Pittsburg,
historian of Church of Brethren.  Sources:  Brethren Public House, Elgin, IL,
1953.  "The Centuries of the Church of the Brethren in Western Pennsylvania,
1751-1950."  David Shaffer and the Fausts may have come from York County,
probably near Glen Rock or Red Lion.  Check land grants.  David's father could
have been given a land grant.  Check Shade County as well.  The Shaffer and
Faust tombstones are not very far apart.  Redline area in York County, Penn.
Hessedarmstadt, Gy, could be where Shaffers were from.  Paul Shaffer had this
in his mind.  Check Rupps:  30,000 Immigrants to US"  Pa. Archives:
Harrisburg, series of volumes. Check Cambria library in Johnstown, and "Swiss
and German Pioneers.  Note H. Frank Eshleman in Lancaster Pa., Lancaster
Historical Society.  Faust distillery is near Glen Rock, York County, which is
3-4 miles from Fissel Cemetary.  Search land records of Somerset Co. and York
County, also wills.  Somerset is county seat.  Paul S. found nothing in land
records of Somerset Co.  David's and his wife's parents could be buried in
Fissel Cemetary in York County.  Note John and Dorothy Faust, Jacob and Eliza
--He died in Napier Twp, New Paris, (Bedford?), Pa.
Faust, Jacob Edgar Faust.  From Bedford and Som. History, p. 407, He came to
Somerset Co. from York Co. with his parents, about 1812?, followed farming.
Member of Evangelical Church and a Whig.  He died in 1889, and may have a will
in Bedford Co.
                  

                   Md -- Ripple (1), --Ripple (2).  Might have been born 31 Jan 1802 (A. G.
Faust's notes, who indicates he was born in Paint Twp., Som. Cty., Penn. Little
is known about him.  He is buried in evangelical cemetery, New Paris, Somerset,
Pa.  He had moved to Iowa.  YRD met his grandson.--Marlin Ralph Shaffer
                  

                   Md. Maria ORRIS.  There is a Jesse SHAFFER listed in IGI as b. 1798 Holsopple,
Somerset Co., Pa. b. 14 Aug 1986 OG, e. 15 Oct 1986 OG, sp. 23 Oct 1986 OG
A. G. Faust has b. date [1806] in Paint Twp.  Query:  Are Holsopple and Paint
Twp. one and the same area?
                  

                   Md. Barbara SHAFFER.  F. S. Helman, A. G. Faust, and Paul Shaffer (3 G's) have
birth date as 27 Mar 1809.  But see Batch 8601406, Sht 05, Source 1396143 F.
Elsewhere, birth date estimated as 1794.  Married a Barbara.  IGI b. 1794.
                  

                   Was called "Sugar Dave"  Md. Elizabeth HOFFMAN.  3G's indicate date of birth is
4 Mar 1812, b. in Paint Twp., Som. Co., Pa.  Another birth date given is 1810
(or 1796).  Buried at Berkey cemetery Church of the Brethren, 1038 Church
Drive, Windber.

George Washington SHAFFER also married Magdelena SHOOK.  Married [1834) to
Elizabeth HELMAN.  When she died, he married [1850] Magdelena SHOOK.  Elizabeth
was sealed to him as wife on 7 Nov 1967 SLAKE; Magdelena was sealed to him as

                   Md. George HELMAN.  At least 1 of 3 G's (genealogists) lists: b. 1 Jun 1819 at
Paint Twp.  See batch 7417611, sheet 75, source 935080 F.  Also, birth date is
given in IGI as 1808, Holsopple, Somerset Co., Pa. b. 26 Jun 1986 OG, e. 15 Aug
1986 OG, sp 18 Sep 1986 OG., simply "Eve".  There is an Eve Anna (same person)
but indicated in other IGI record that she was born in Milford Twp., Somerset
Co., Pa, b. 6 Feb 1975, e. 17 Mar 1975, sp 27 Mar 1975, all SLAKE.---Marlin Ralph Shaffer
                  

                   Unmarried.  Buried in Rummel Cemetary, has tombstone.  Age is given as 25 in
1850 fed. census.  Also shows (?) a Susan or Susanna, born 23 Oct 1825, Paint
Twp., HAWAI b. 17 Jun 1972, e. 19 Jul 1972, sp. 3 Jan 1974, prob wrong or
maybe son md another Catherine Faust who had a Susanna as a child.

Related by Paul Shaffer and Dr. Alvin Faust (Princeton Ave., Pittsburg, Pa.)
Paul lived in Winber which, formerly, was Paint Twp., Somerset Co., Pa.  Check
records of the Church of the Brethren of Western Pennsylvania.  Dr. Faust's
middle initial is G.  He is related to Catherine Faust who married David
Shaffer.  His records go into the Sons or Daughters of the American Revolution.
Dr Faust was on the historical committee of the Church of the Brethren.  Daniel
had a son Andrew who told Paul Shaffer that they were buried in Winber.  Paint
Twp. later became the town of Winber in Somerset Co.  David was born in 1771,
as estimated from the census, but Alvin G. Faust indicates date to be 1769.  He
is buried in Rummel Cemetary, in Winber, formerly Paint Twp., Somerset Co., Pa.
It shows his age as 81 in the 1850 Somerset Co. census.  David probably married
in 1796, to Catherine Faust.  {1787} another birth date found.  AF b. [1787]
No ord. AF or IGI.  One record gives b. date 1810.
                  

                   Civil War veteran.  Called "Black Dan".  His son, Andrew, told Paul Shaffer, of
the Church of the Brethren, Windber, Pa. they "were buried there," presumably in
Paint Twp.  He married Elizabeth SEESE.  Suspect at one research location is
born at York, York, Pa, b. 27 Apr 1991 PR, e. 9 Jul 1991 PR, and 6 Aug 1991 PR

census.  3 G's: ge was born abt 1827.  Note also: b. 24 Jun 1972 HAW, e. 11 Oct
19172 HAW, sp. 25 Jan 1974 HAW.  Date in other record, born abt 1828 almost
certainly in error, but having temple dates: b. 2 Aug 1986 OG, e. 01 Oct 1986
OG, sp 14 Oct 1986 OG, born Paint Twp.  Correct birth date is 4 Aug 1827.
Total of 8 children, 1 born after his death.  Buried at Arlington National
Cenetery, in Arlington, Va.  He was drafted and died during the war.
He married Elizabeth Sees about 1853 in Somerset Co., Pa.  From Mrs. Patricia
M. Shaffer, correct as shown on fgs; 1806 b date IGI incorrect.  Correct m.
date Feb 16, 1854, md in father's home.  IGI 1853 m. date incorrect.  An. rec.
