Notes:
Name initially found in 1850 York Twp, Fulton Co, Ohio census under the listing for his father, Valentine Hay. His age was given as 16 which would have made him born when the family lived in Beaver Co, PA. The census showed him born in Penn. Subsequently, his name was listed as one of the children of Valentine and Christina Hay in the transcription of information given to Peggy Hay McReynolds by her grandfather Elias Hay in 1942. Elias was John's youngest brother. John was found in the 1860 Clinton Twp, Fulton Co, Ohio census as the head of a family, wife and 4 children. He could not be found in the 1870 Fulton Co, Ohio census nor did he and his family accompany other members of the family to Kansas in 1880. Subsequently, his daughter Alvira was found in the 1900 Lakeville Twp, Dickinson Co, Iowa census as the wife of George S. Steele.
Notes:
Name originally obtained thru Mabel I. Hay from transcription of information given Peggy Hay McReynolds by her grandfather Elias Hay in 1942. The name was given as Trifine Gear. Name on 1860 Ohio census was very difficult to read but my best guess was "Trisherry". Subsequently the name was found in the 1850 Swan Creek Twp, Fulton Co, Ohio census and was found tobe Tryphena. She was listed in the household of Josiah Simermon with 2 males named James Gear aged 9 and Charles Gear aged 7. Her age was listed as 18. Based on the GEER family genealogy which was obtained through Ginger M. August, 32 Stetson Way, Princeton, N.J. 08540 the correct spelling is Geer. The GEER genealogy did not have any information on who Tryphena married or what had happened to her. Birth place obtained from record submitted by Clark Fails, a GEER family genealogist.
