Johann or Hans Valentin HOH
Records are kept in Zweibrucken. Records only contain birth information for sons Daniel & Valentin and birth and marriage information for Simon. Genealogists, therefore, suggest they emigrated. Records are found in Woodberry Twp, Bedford Co, Pennsylvania Deeds Book H page 397 for Simon and Eve Hay. Since we also find records for Daniel and Valentine in Wood- berry Twp we believe this Valentine is the husband of Catharine and his will is found in Will Book 1 pages 368, 369 & 370. He had 5 children, Mary, Catherine, Valentine, Margaret & Simon Gilbert. The dates from birth and U.S. census records are all compatible and no other Hay line can be found wherein they might be reconciled. Hans Valentin Hoh also had 5 daughters, however, their names are not listed in this record. Hans is a nickname for Johann in German.Records are kept in Zweibrucken. We believe this is the Valentine Hay found in Woodberry Twp, Bedford Co, Pennsylvania. A Valentine Hay is shown in the 1800 Pennsylvania census as being 45 or over with 2 females in his household, 1 under 10 and 1 be- tween 16 & 26. His will is found in Will Book 1, page 368, and was written in German. See note for his father, Johann (Hans) Valentin Hoh-19. The April 3, 1816 Bedford County Orphans Court records, Book 3, pages 77, 80, 408 and 409 list the names of the children and state that Mary and Catherine were over 14 and the other 3 under 14. A Simon Hay and Herman Dick were witnesses to his will. Jonathan Hay and George Hartle were named as executors (a translation of original German). The translation in the Bedford County Probate Court records list him as John Hay.
Records are found in Woodberry Twp, Bedford Co, Pennsylvania Deeds Book H page 397 showing Simon and Eve Hay as purchasers of a farm. It is assumed this is the same couple shown here. His brothers, Daniel and Valentine, are also shown in records as residents of Woodberry Twp. The dates are all compatible and Mrs. Gerald C. Hay, Sr. has found no other Hay line where it might be reconciled. A Simon Hay was a witness on Valentine Hay's last will and testament. The children shown here were taken from the will for Simon Hay found in Will Book 3, page 82, Bedford County, Pennsylvania Probate Court. The will was admitted to probate May 20, 1836. One of his grand daughters maiden name was Susanna Smay and her married name was Susanna Green. In a letter of August 8, 1988 Dr. Richard Hoh speculates that this Johann Simon Hoh came to America on the ship Sallee on October 5, 1767 but then went back to marry and then returned to America with his wife.
