Samuel CRAMER
Samuel Cramer. Birth and death dates from his Bible record. Copy of this record is in the Somerset Co. PA Historical & Genealogical Soc. files. A letter of administration on his estate was granted to Samuel K. Cramer and John Cramer on June 10, 1840. The letter also notes that a renunciation by his widow, Rebecca had been accepted & filed. No Children are mentioned, however, in the records of a Somerset church, we find the births of the first four of the children of Samuel & Rebecca Cramer listed here. These names and dates are confirmed in the Bible records of Samuel Cramer. The names and data on the other children are from the Bible record. His family lived on the Dr. Hannah Farm near Casselman, Somerset Co., PA. Several of his children moved to Iowa. His descendants spelled the name "Cremer". In the sources of Mazie Emanuel, a number of his children appear to have been ascribed both to him and to his nephew Samuel, son of his brother Benjamin. === [Brderbund WFT Vol. 12, Ed. 1, Tree #3318, Date of Import: Jul 28, 1998] === Rebecca CREMER, Widow of Samuel, remained in Somerset County until after the 1850 census, then moved to Agency, Iowa, where several of her sons also settled. Her bible descended into possession of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanna, Pulaski, Iowa. === The frontpiece page of the bible is missing. On the first blank page in Samuel Cremer's handwriting is "Samuel Cremers Book. Bought in the year of our Lord 1837. Price $4.00." Below this is written -- "The owner of this book died on the eleventh day of May 1840. Left to Michael Cremer." === This bible contained records of the births and deaths of family members. === Samuel CREMER is buried near Addison, PA along the National Road next to his son, James CREMER and wife Nancy. Samuel was a Captain in the War of 1812, and of German ancestry. According to a family history compiled by descendants living in Iowa, Rebecca was the daughter of Michael KING, of Somerset Co., PA who was a Methodist minister of considerable prominence and of English ancestry. === In 1954, two descendants, Ernest Cremer of Agency, IA, and Yvonne Brenneman of McKeesport, PA compiled a family chart of many of Samuel's descendants. A copy of this was given to Rosalie Hartinger and later to O.L. Flaningam, and was used with other data compiled by Ernest Cramer and used to write this history.
Rebecca King. She moved to Agency, Wapello county, IA after 1850, to live with some of her sons who moved to that area. Her birth and death dates are from Samuel Cramer's Bible. The bible was inherited by their son Michael.
Elizabeth Cramer. Her birth & death dates & spouse from Samuel Cramer's Bible record. Her birth also noted in Sanner Church baptismal records, Somerset Co., PA. She had 2 sons and 3 daughters. In Mazie Emanuel's original sources she was thought to be a great granddaughter of Adam, rather than a granddaughter.
John's birthdate from Sanner Lutheran Church records. === John S. Cremer. In Mazie Emanuel's sources, he was given as a great grandson of Adam (Adam-> Benjamin->Samuel->John S. Cremer) rather than as a grandson. However, the 1850 census and notes of Ernest Cramer in the Hist. & Gen. Soc. of Somerset Co. show that this should be his proper position. The notes of Ernest Cramer for Samuel Cramer's second child read: "John S. Cremer, born 10-17-1800, died 11-17-1862, married Sallie Schoff, Seven children (4 sons, 3 daughters)." The 1850, Upper Turkeyfoot Twp, Somerset Co. census gives: "John S. Cramer(49); Sallie(??); Mary(19); Hiram(17); Adaline(15); Harriet E.(5); Cyrus A.(1)." (Census data from Peter Novielli 7/95) === Sarah's (Sallie's) surname is also spelled Schaaf in some records. Her birth year is estimated as 1807 and Austin's birth year as 1850 and Aaron's birth year as 1842 in Turkeyfoot Twp. genealogical website. Cyrus is also given as Silas in some records.
Mary Cramer. Birth and dates from Samuel Cramer's Bible record. Her birth is also noted in the Sanner Church baptismal records, Somerset Co., PA. She had 3 sons and 4 daughters. In Mazie Emanuel's original sources she was thought to be a great granddaughter of Samuel rather than a granddaughter.
Joseph Cramer. His birth and death dates from Samuel Cramer's Bible record. His birth is also noted in the Sanner church baptismal records. His children and their descendants are taken from the Ernest Cramer (1954) family chart. Some further information was found in a family group sheet marked: Source: Miss Anna Williams.
Birth date from Sanner Lutheran Church records. Hester (Hattie) Cremer. She had ten children, 8 sons and two daughters (Data from Ernest Cramer notes in Hist. & Gen. Soc. of Somerset files). In Mazie Emanuel's sources she was thought to be a great granddaughter of Adam.
James Cremer had one son. === [Brderbund WFT Vol. 12, Ed. 1, Tree #3318, Date of Import: Jul 28, 1998] === The father and mother of Andrew J. Cremer of Addison was verified by the marriage registration filed in the Somerset County Courthouse, Pa. === It appears that James CREMER died very young. His wife Nancy apparently never remarried. They had only one son. James CREMER's inheritance from his father Samuel went to his son. This is noted in Samuel CREMER's will. === James was christened on Aug 14, 1823 at Sanner Lutheran, Milford Twp, Somerset Co.
Martha Cremer. Her date of birth (as Matilda Cramer) from Sanner Lutheran church records. There was a son of the first marriage and a son and a daughter of the second. In Mazie Emanuel's original sources she was thought to be a great granddaughter of Adam.
His children with Hulda France and their descendants were taken from the Ernest Cramer family chart (1954). The children by Mary McKay are from Family Tree Maker files. Question: Are Mary McKay & Nancy McKey the same person? This surname is also McKey in some records.
Henry W. Cremer. They had one son.
