                   Ref; obit;  She was born in York County Pennsylvania.  We have no datefor her move to Somerset County, Pennsylvania, but her 2 daughters by Mr.Fitzgerald, Mary and Eve were born in Shade Township, Somerset County,Pennsylvania.  Following Eve's marriage to John Oaks 7 more children wereborn in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.  In 1840 both girls by Mr.Fitzgerald were married to men named Fry and were raising their familiesin Somerset County Pennsylvania.  In
June of 1843, Eve and John moved their family of seven, the oldest being13 and the youngest 1 to
Cedar township of Iowa Territory, where they commenced farming just eastof the Cedar River.  The
Faust family lived in a area of Shade township called Faustwell.  Thefamily ran a mill.  She is buried in the Oak Grove cemetery near CranstonIowa.

Mr. Gates was first married to Cornelia Pettit September 5,1839, she died August 22, 1846.  Mr. Gates had three children by hisfirst marriage two of whom are living, Silas R. and Louis W. both of whomserved in the Union army during the rebellion.  Mrs. Gates has sixchildren by her second marriage, Harriet (Mrs. John W. Meeker), James B.,H. N., Cornelia A., Jesse A., and George W.  Mrs. Gates mother Mrs. Oaksresides with her.
