John Warren MEEKER
Ref; Muscatine County,Iowa m/cer. Notes from obit; He came to Iowawith his parents when he was about 4 years old settling near CranstonIowa. At the outbreak of the Cival War Mr. Meeker enlisted with CompanyA. Eleventh Iowa regiment, serving throughout the war. His wife died in1916. Following his marriage they moved to a farm west of Cranston Iowa,where they lived until his wife died. Mr. Meeker held the distinction ofbeing the only Cival War Veteran in the Cranston Iowa neighborhood and hewas the last of 5 brothers. Surviving are six children Carl of NicholsIowa, Howard of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Edgar of Clinton Iowa, George ofDenver, and Miss Myrtle of Chicago Illinois, and 16 g/children. Burialwill be in the Cranston Iowa cemetery. Warren and Harriett weremarried on March 1, 1866 in a double ceremony with her half brother LouisWinston Gates and Mary Shellabarger, who was Warren's first cousin.These two couples were good friends all their lives, and they are buriedalmost side by side at the Cranston Iowa cemetery. John Warren (alwayscalled Warren) and Harriet his wife lived on land that had been part ofhis father's property. Located in 76 township east and north of CranstonIowa. They lived in Maryville Missouri for 4 years. Later in life theysold the farm to Warren's brother and moved to a house in the town ofCranston Iowa.

Survivors are sons Carl W.of Ardon Iowa, Howard A. of Cedar Rapids Iowa, W. Edgar of Clinton Iowa,George W. of Tabernash Colorado, and Harry C. of Arden Iowa, and daughterMary Myrtle of Cranston Iowa, 15 g/children, a brother Horato N. Gates amerchant of Cranston Iowa, a half brother Cyrus R. Gates of Long BeachCalifornia.
Notes from obit: He moved to Waterloo Iowa, several years ago to makehis home with his son Harold Meeker. Surviving are two sons HaroldMeeker of Waterloo Iowa, and Ralph Meeker of Bettendorf Iowa, a daughterMrs. Raymond Bothell of Iowa City Iowa, a sister Miss Myrtle Meeker ofChicago Illinois, and three g/children. He was preceded in death by hisparents, wife, a daughter, a son, five brothers and a sister.

Surviving are hiswife one daughter Martha Mae, three brothers Harry of Muscatine, Carl ofLone Tree Iowa, and Howard of Cedar Rapids Iowa, and one sister MissMyrtle Meeker of Chicago Illinois. One brother George died in Denverseveral years ago. Burial will be in the Cranston Cemetery.
Notes from obit; Mr. Meeker had been a custodian at the Muscatine countycourthouse for 20 years. He had resided in the Cranston Iowa communitybefore coming to Muscatine 20 years ago. He is survived by his wife twodaughters Mrs. Roger Manley of West Liberty Iowa, and Mrs. Robert Zollerof Muscatine, one brother Carl W. Meeker of Muscatine, one sister MissMyrtle Meeker of Chicago Illinois, and 4 g/children. His parents, fourbrothers and one sister preceded him in death. Burial was in theCranston Iowa cemetery.
He married Harriett Gates 1 Mar 1866 at Muscatine, Muscatine, Iowa . Harriett Gates was born at Lowell, Wisconsin 13 Apr 1849 daughter of Seth G. Gates and Eve Fitzgerald .
