Mary Jane King McIntire's legacy to us has been her scrapbook where she kept a record of the deaths and happenings in her family and of her husbands. After her death kept up by Emma Dearth McIntire. Among the papers given to me I found the answer to the acceptance of the asking for Mary Jane's hand in marriage written by her father Josiah King. John McIntire was a Methodist Minister, dying very young. After the death of John, Mary Jane came back to her people. She bought property in Perry Township known as the "Willows".It must have been a showplace in it's time. (newspaper clipping) Mary Jane's will is recorded in Westmoreland County as the last years of her life were spent near Latrobe Westmoreland County Pennsylvania, the will was probated April 11, 1914. Mary Jane is found in Luzerne Twp. Fayette County Pennsylvania Census Record 1880 Mary McIntire 44 a widow born in Pennsylvania, Charles 15, John 10,and Josiah 8. In 1902 Mary Jane went to live with son John Emory to help raise Wilbur. Mary Jane is buried at Mt. Washington Cemetery near Perryopolis Pennsylvania. DEATH: McIntire Family Bible-Tombstone Mt. Josiah King McIntire was orphaned at about a year and a half. Guardianship Papers were granted to Josiah King, his maternal grandfather by the Orphan's Court of Fayette County Pennsylvania in June 1875 File # 47. He was known as "Jay" to everyone. He was a livery stable owner at one time and then became a full time farmer. He served as school director many years and in 1922 he was President of Perry Township School Directors. He was a Republican and a Methodist. "Jay" was my (Betty Mcintire) paternal grandfather and I've many pleasant memories of him singing hymns as he went about his work and even as we walked the fields and roads around Perryopolis, where my love of history took roots. We visited many historic sights, many times there was only rubble-but he brought it to life for me. Washington's Mill, the old brick yard, and a Quaker Church, an old stone house, the Fuller home are just a few that I remember.
