     Have found entries stating born in France, England and Scotland.
     Born Pays D'Aunis, La Rochelle, France.
     Born Ross-on- Wye, Herfordshire, England.
     Born in Ross, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. One source sites a baptism date of 1645 of infant Jon WHYT in Sterling, Kilseth near Edinburgh, a port in Scotland. The father of Jon was Robert WHYT. Surname is spelt several ways, such as WHYT, WHYTT, QWYTT, etc. First listing in this area was in 1643 of a Rbt. WHYTT of Stirling, Falkire. John WITT was an alter boy in Sterling, Kilseth, Edinburgh, Scotland when he was 8 years old.
     Was an English citizen, as only citizens were allowed to own land or file suit. Prior to 1680, non-English settlers required an act of the House of Burgesses to acheive citizenship. These acts are well preserved in Hening's "Statutes", and no WITT appears in them. Unless he was made a citizen in England itself, he must have been born in England or one of its colonies.
     Went to Barbados before arriving in Virginia in 1682.
