                   His great grandfather was from Scotland and immigrated to America. 3rd child, crossed the MissippiRiver at Burlington fall of 1834 as one of 5 explorers and made a claim to a half-section of land  in Lee County Iowa.,  later  went to the lead mines in Wisconsin, and next he moved to Jefferson Co. Iowa  becoming sherrif 3 terms.  Lived in DesMoines Iowa. Had his brother Alexander's body removed from Kearney and buried on Des Moines State Capitol property he had donated.

                   His grave is on a hill behind the new Justice building where it was returned by his brother James when he died on his way to the Gold fields.
Grave cap states" Sacred to the memory of Willson Alexander Scott who gave to the state of Iowa the greater part of the land where stands the capitol& built a $35,000 Capitol building borrowed from the school fund but the crash of1857 left them stranded. Born in Crawford County Indiana other date is Dec 18, 1818. Under contract to furnish a garrison at FortDesMoines and later left with the Indians to Kansas as a trader. He acquired some five hundred acres of land hereabouts and settled on this site in 1846. Overwhelmed in the financial crash of 1857 he left for the gold fields. he died near Fort Kearney Nebraska territory, Enroute to Pikes Peak June 23, 1859. By his expressed wish his body was returned and on Nov 1 1859 it was here interred in earth which as his homestead had been exempted from seizure for his debts. Erected 1925 by the state of Iowa"
