Alice Croys great grandfather we visited her in Jameson and learned
all about family, got pictures and histories. A very precious little recently
widowed lady of 87 in 1995. Her husband ran their farm until a few months
before his death at age 94. She is our 3rd cousin twice removed and on another
line (Terry) her husband is our cousin twice removed.

As there were no roads where he grew up, they traveled by river to Pekin on the Illinois River to trade grain for what the family needed. At 20 he left home employed at breaking land with 4 or 5 yoke of oxen at $12 a mo.. He bought land and farmed building a home for $900 in 1861.
