                   His great grandfather was from Scotland and immigrated to America. 3rd child, crossed the MissippiRiver at Burlington fall of 1834 as one of 5 explorers and made a claim to a half-section of land  in Lee County Iowa.,  later  went to the lead mines in Wisconsin, and next he moved to Jefferson Co. Iowa  becoming sherrif 3 terms.  Lived in DesMoines Iowa. Had his brother Alexander's body removed from Kearney and buried on Des Moines State Capitol property he had donated.
