                   As there were no roads where he grew up, they traveled by river to Pekin on the Illinois River to trade grain for what the family needed. At 20 he left home employed at breaking land with 4 or 5 yoke of oxen at $12 a mo.. He bought land and farmed building a home for $900 in 1861. He divided his 240 acres among his children.A democrat and Christian. Need names of a son and daughter who died young total  4 sons and 3 daus
