Joseph Warren ALFORD

                   Aunt Jane raised Gary James Powers Sr and Joseph Travis Powers after
their father Alva went away and their mother Pearl died. They cared a
great deal for her.

Alford aged 26, address not noted by census taker, married 7 years, born in
Arkansas, parents born in Arkansas. Profession: electrician. Married to
Madeleine, aged 24, born in Arkansas of parents born in Missouri, who is mother
to one child not living.

1920 U.S. Census, Roll #1820063, Sheet 4B (towards start of roll), living at
116 Liberty Street, Hot Springs, Garland County, State of Arkansas. Renting a
room ([?]from the Beasley family at same address), aged 37, born in Arkansas of
parents born in Arkansas. Profession: proprietor of service station. Married to
Madeleine, aged 34, born in Arkansas of parents born in Missouri.

A book of tombstone inscriptions shows a gravestone in the Lawn Block of the
Greenwood Cemetery for Lee V. Alford, July 28, 1882/July 14, 1940. There are
other family tombstones nearby.
                  

                   Joseph W. Alford Jr.'s middle name is Warren. This may have been the name he
went by, as his wife's (Mary's) tombstone calls her 'wife of Warren'.
This is the younger Joseph W. Alford, son of Joseph W. Alford.

In the 1920 U.S. Census, roll #1820063, Sheet 4B (towards start of roll), shown
living with parents, wife Mary and two sons at 131 Liberty Street. Profession
listed as salesman in cigar store. Age: 33 years.

The Marriage Record Index of Garland County, Arkansas shows the marriage
between J. Warren Alford, age 21, and Mary E. White, age 20, on 20 Oct 1907.
                  

                   Gary James Powers Sr.'s birth certificate states that Nellie Pearl's age
at the time of Gary's birth was 34 years.
In the U.S. Census of 1920 on a form dated 5 Jan 1920 for Hot Springs, Ward
Six, E 1/2, her name is given as Pearl Powers. She is shown living as wife with
Alva O. Powers at 517 South Border (Street?). She was aged 29 at last
birthday, so she must have been born in 1890.
She gave Arkansas as her state of birth, and Texas and Arkansas as birthplaces
of her father and mother, respectively. This info can be found on the
microfiche roll for Garland County, Arkansas, near the end of the roll.

A book of tombstone inscriptions for Hot Springs, Arkansas shows a stone for
'Pearl Alford Powers' near other Alford family members. It shows dates for
birth/death as follows: Sept. 21, 1889/Sept. 7, 1933.
