Blocked

                   Burl Jefferson Pearson's father died when he was young.  His mother remarried George Ambrose Haverly.  George raised Burl and his brother Basil.  George had 2 girls prior to the marriage to Mary Ethel "Sister" Reynolds Pearson.  George's first 2 wives had died.
      When I was a little girl, between 2 - 5 years old,  we would go visit "Papa", which was  George Haverly.  He  lived with his son George Haverly, Jr. (Burl's half brother) and George's wife, called Joe.  They lived in Ceres, Stanislaus, California, which is just outside of Modesto, California.  My mother, Cecil Maxine Pearson Ricks, would take me.  I remember Papa was a very tall man with glasses.  Every time that I saw him, he wore bluejean overalls with white stripes.  He chewed tobacco and spit it out into a gold spittoon, which sat right beside his recliner that he was always in.
