George grew up and lived on the family homestead in Union Twp., Kossouth Co., Iowa. He had a rural school education. He farmed for sometime but 40 years ago, before his death, moved to Algona which had ever since been their home. He had an outdoor adverstising business in which he engaged for 17 years, but in 1937 he sold it to Frank Caughey. His later years were involved in operating the K. & H. gas station across the street south from the Legion building. He was a member of the Baptist church and in ealier life had been active in benevolent and social groups.
The 1915 census for Kossuth Co., Iowa lists George's occupation as a carpenter.
