The earliest period at which this name appears in histor5y is the first half of
the fourteenth centry.  There was a John Foulsham, of Foulsham, prior of a
Carmmelite monastery in Warwick, England.  He was a prominent ecclesiastic, and
his brother Richard was more prominent.  The word foule (fowl) signified a
bird, and the country seat called Foulesham probably took its name from its
being the home (ham) of many foules (birds).
