Revolutionary War Pension papers of John Chaplin states the follwoing:
I David Chaplin of Waterford, in the county of Oxford and State of Maine, do testify and say of my brother John Chaplin of Bridgton, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine that I knew him to be a resident of Cape Ann of Massachusetts in the year of our Lord 1775, previous to the revolutionary war, while I was a resident of Rowley in the Said Massachussetts. that after the commencement of the said war I, being a soldier of Cambridge, in Capt. John Bakers company dol. Mosses Little's regiment, knew my said brother as a soldier in the said regiment, in Capt. Warner's company from about the first of May in the said year till about the first of Sep. when, or I then and ever since understood he enlisted out of said regiment, under col. Arnold to go to Canada. As I continued a soldier at Cambridge throught the siad year and the next till we marched for New York, and then I was discharged a the close of the year 1776, at Trneton in New Jersey, I knew no more of my said brothe till I had returned to Rowley, Jan 17777, when I understood by him and others many particulars respecting the said campaign. And, by what I consider indbitable testimony, he remained a soldier in Canada till sometime in May 17776; and that he had returned to Rowley and enlisted into a company commanded by Capt. Beabody ( I do not rmember the Regiment) and had served as a soldier a compaign of about five months at Ticonderoga and was then returned again to Rowley. From this time my said brother and I wrought together at the Blacksmith's and other employments till I enlisted in August and was absent from him about five months at the takin of Burgoin, in the year 1777/Om Kam 1778 I resumed work with my said brother till about the first of March, when I separated from him by enlisting into a company of artificers to serve on the river Hudson in New York. Though my term closed wi the year 1778, by reason of sickness, I did not return to Rowley till about the first of March 1779, I then found that my said brother had just returned from a crusie on board the Brig Benington of 18 guns. Its even had taken several prizes from the British; one ship of the said prizes wass brought into Newbury port when the said Privateer then lay. I was with him on board each of these vessels and knew of this bringing home from on board said ship his share of property taken. I likewise, then and ever since, understood by the best information, that the time of his shipping on board said brig was about the last of May 1778 and that he was discharged about the first of March 1779 signed David Chaplin

In David Chaplin's revolutionary war pension papers states that he resided in Bridgton in Cumberland, Maine at that time of his enlistment and enlisted in Ipswich, MA and in 1819 lived in Waterford, Oxford, in commonwealth of Massachusetts.

History of Bridgton 1768-1968 by Marriner 1969 pg 200, pg 208 On this stream in 1799 ( Muddy River) John Cahp0lin established a saw mill, which he and his sons operated for many years. Holt Pond and the site of Chaplin mill are not far from the road that leads out to route 302. No vestige of the old mill remains
pg 208 Holt pond-outlet in the town of Naples. Muddy River once flowed several miles within Bridgton township through a rugged tract fo land set off in 1834 to form part of the town of Naples. On this stream, in 1799, John Chaplin established a saw mill, which he and his sons operated for many years. Not far from the road that leads out to Rte 302- old mill remains. Old North Esk on the Miramichi by W. D. Hamilton pg 105 in 1778. John married a first cousin, Margaret Chaplin, and he spent the first decade of his married life in Massachusetts, as a blacksmith. Then he moved to Bridgton, Maine, about 1789, where he prospered, but about 1802, the family is said by Dr. And Mrs. Ellis, to have followed the lumbering business to the Miramichi. It should be noted that no record of this move has been found. John purchased no land and was appointed to no parish offices. Yet the claim that the family resided on the North West for a time fits together with the fact that three of the sons later settled there. There are documents to show that John, his wife Margaret, and most of their children had returned to Maine by 1811, but they probably returned somewhat sooner. The New Brunswick census of 1851 states that their son Williams, who settled permanently at Cassilis, entered the province in 1810- presumabley for a second time. "Back in Bridgton, " Wrote Dr. and Mrs. Wllis," John enlared and builty up his holdings in what became the new town of Naples." He died on August 3, 1837, survived a few years by Margaret. It would seem that the first 6 children were born in Rowley, Massachusetts, the next five in Bridgton, and the youngest tow on the Miramichi. Most of the names and dates shown were obtained from Dr. and Mrs. Ellis's work.

A man of giant physique, served in the Massachusetts command in the Revolutionary War.
