Harmonas ALKIRE
Will dated 29May1800 in Bourbon Co, KY Will bk. B p. 82 Recorded Jul1800 Exec. William Alkire and William Clarkeson Wit. John Wallace, Jedidiah Pullen Jesse Fitzgerald, and Edward Campbell The Alkires originated in Holland and the family records can be traced as far back as William II, Prince of Orange. The Hague records present information that near Amheim, on the Rhein in Holland in 1626, there lived a family bearing a Coat of Arms which was given by the Prince of Orange with the baronet name of Algire. This insignia may be thus inscribed: "Arms on a silver shield, crest, a falcon with red feet and beak, a bunbch of grapes and a wine glass, a pike and crossed swords, with the motto "CUM SALIS" which means safety." That the Algires were noblemen was proved by the composition of the shields, only men of rank were permitted the use of gold and silver. The middle class used only leather and wooden shields. Almonius Alkire came to America with Lord Baltimore in the seventeenth century. He assisted in the suppression of many Indian outbreaks. In 1720 he married Mary Crayman near Moorfield, Virginia.(County Records-family records-tombsstones.
