Edward Kent CARVER
Town of Glenburn, Maine. Clerk's Records. Births, Marriages, and Deaths, Vol I, Page 52, Page 55 Monument at Pleasant View Cemetery in Glenburn, Maine says: "Edward K. Carver, A member of Co. B 20th Regiment, ME Vols. Died 24 January 1899. Age 56 years, 1 month and 10 days." The one month and ten days note would support the December 13 birth date in the town records, but not the 1841 birth year. The 1850 census also lists Edward as being 9 at the time of the enumeration in August of 1850. The census taker may have given credit, i.e. rounded up since Edward, in August would have been closer to 9 than to 8. Or, as other records suggest he was born in July 1842, but then he would only have been 8 at the time of the 1850 census. The June 8, 1860 Federal Census gives his age as 18. This also favors the 1841 birth year as he would be 19 on either the July or the December yet to come in 1860. See notes on brother Leonard Dwight Carver. Note from Pauline L. Henderson, granddaughter to Edward Kent Carver through daughter Mahala Maud Carver Henderson indicates that Edward was a farmer and peddler of accessories. He was in the Civil War. Also says that he was from around LaGrange and Howland, Maine. Civil War data in possession of Ellis Charles Rail.

Says there were either (can't read writing) 7 girls and 4 boys or 4 girls and 4 boys. In 1992 visit with daughters Pauline Henderson Crisp and Olga Henderson Smith both said their mother's name, town records notwithstanding, was Maude Mahala Carver, not Mahala Maud Carver.
